.A Prolonged Handshake
Urban Arts Space July 2021
A collaborative project between Brianna Gluszak and Hannah Parrett that addresses their questions in abstraction through material relationships between glass, textiles, vinyl, drawings, and paintings. Borrowing concepts and visual information from each other’s individual practices, they are mashing their two heads, four hands, and years of conversations together to experience a change in narrative surrounding the work. Utilizing spatial components in Urban Arts Space, they are interested in finding moments where the architecture naturally breaks the hard-edged expectation of a gallery. Within this project, they find themselves questioning how the history of these formal structures create inherent feelings about gendered spaces/objects, what limitations exist within the history of abstraction, and how they can both embrace and challenge these conventions.
